What is Ethereum ?

Ethereum is a cryptocurrency and a blockchain platform with smart contract functionality. It’s basically a decentralized platform for developers to build apps on top of and it was invented by Vitalik Buterin in 2013.

Ethereum is a blockchain-based platform that enables developers to build decentralized applications referred to as dApps, short for Decentralized Applications. It was specifically designed for the implementation of SmartContracts, which are self-executing agreements between two or more parties. Ethereum offers more than just Smart Contract functionality and can be used to build Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAO).

Smart contracts are self-executing agreements defined by programming code. This code defines the rules and penalties around an agreement. The contract’s enforcement occurs automatically through a “script” or “program” with specific instructions, i.e., blockchain, which deploys the smart contract, and monitors it for adherence to the agreed upon terms.
